Writing Basics

Do you have a story in your head that you need 
to get out? Are you curious how to get started?

Seasoned NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) winner Richelle LeFluer will discuss some basics on writing, what NaNoWriMo is, and tips to be successful at it.

This program is open to teens and adults. There is no charge for attendance.

Autumn is a local 6th-12th grade student who participated in all 6 of our Summer PERCs programs in 2014. Here are her reviews...

Cake Pops -  
It was really fun. We got to learn how to make cake pops and joke around.

Zentangle -  
It wasn't too bad, but it was kind of boring.

Gaming Day -  
It was fun. We got to play games on a Wii and joke around.

Tie Dye Tiles -  
It was fun. We got to make cool designs on tiles.

Bleach T's -  
It was fun and we got to make cool designs on our shirts.

Autumn also attended the final party but didn't review it.

MAG Monday!!!

Snacks, Wii, laptops, and friends! 

Come hang out at the library, get a 

little loud and have fun at MAG Monday. 

Due to scheduling conflicts MAG will be 

October 15th and 29th at 3:15-4:45pm.

National Zombie Lock-In for Teens!

Zombies are invading the library!!!

Friday, August 3rd 5:30p-10:30p. Lillie M. Evans Library teens will be part of the second National Zombie Lock-in!

Teens across the United States will be participating in their libraries on this nearly full moon evening of the undead.

There will be Bleach T’s, Zombified Barbies, Wii, a Zombie costume contest, and more.

Please show up dressed as the undead and be sure to include your t-shirt size on the permission form. Teens must turn in permission slip by July 30th to guarantee their spot. 

Space is limited, register ASAP!!! Must be entering 9th-12th grade during the 2012-2013 school year to participate.

Winter Reading & Pass the Book!

4th - 8th Graders:

Only 4th-8th Graders in the state of Illinois get to vote the Rebecca Caudill Young Readers Book Award!!! Let your opinion be heard.

Print your 4th-8th "BINGO card" or stop by the library to pick one up.

It's EASY:

1. Read at least 3 of the 20 books on the list. NOTE: You don't have to get a "BINGO."
2. Attend booktalk sessions on February 2 & February 9 at 3:15-4:45pm (OPTIONAL).

3. Turn in your BINGO card at the library before February 22nd after you have read at least 3 books.
4. Attend the Official Voting Day/Pizza Party on Thursday, February 23, 2012(Must have read at least 3 of the books and turn in completed BINGO sheet to vote and attend pizza party).

Pass the Book:

4th-8th graders may also pick up one of our specially marked copies of "Every Soul a Star" to read, register, and "pass the book" to a friend or family member. Every Soul a Star is a Rebecca Caudil book and counts towards the Voting/Pizza Party. Instructions are included inside each book.

9th - 12th Graders:

It's simple -

• Print out the 9th-12th Bingo Sheet or pick one up at the library.
• Complete one BINGO by reading the type of book or doing the action that is listed in each box.
• Turn in your completed BINGO sheet before 5:00 P.M. on February 24th for your choice of a book from a selection of current titles. Turn your card in early for the best selection!

If you want to complete more than one BINGO on the sheet, that's great! However, there are no additional prizes for completing more than one BINGO. HAVE FUN!!!

High School Cafe

Throughout the school year the library hosts High School Cafe. Tuesdays & Fridays after school at 3:15 pm all high school age teens are invited into the meeting room. Teens are allowed to have drinks and snacks, listen to music, play video games, do homework (yeah right) and get louder than they can in the rest of the library.

There are gaming quality laptops available for use by teens (with signed computer contract) as well. With the free library Wi-Fi, teens can access the internet through their own wireless devices such as iPod Touch, laptops or handheld gaming systems.

Summer YA Days - FINAL PARTY!

Monday, July 11th will be the Final Party for our Summer YA Days. Stop by for gaming, food and the GRAND PRIZE GIVEAWAY!!! It's not too late to get yourself into the drawing...By coming to the Final Party you will earn an entry!

HS Lock-in: Creatures of the Night

It's time for another Night at the Library!

Dress up as your favorite vampire or werewolf and join us for a night of games, snacks, and movies as we embrace our fascination with the creatures of the night. There will be also contests, including "Best Dressed," with prizes to win!

Space is limited to 12 high school age teens. Please call the library at 309-385-4540 for more information. Permission forms will be accepted starting the week of July 11. Get Your Sweet Tooth Ready!

Monday, June 6th @ 3pm

come to the library to create fun, edible, Junk Food Sculptures!

All 6th - 12th graders are welcome to join us to make "midieval themed" sculptures with candy and junk food.

Each person will receive a tray on which to build their sculpture. You can choose from a variety or candies including: M&Ms, Twizzlers, Pretzel Rods, marshmallows, graham crackers, gummy bears and more! Chocolate frosting and marshmallow fluff will act as glue for the sculptures.

NOTE: Each participant will receive an entry into the Summer YA Days grand prize drawing.
